ALASKAN
YELLOW CEDAR AND COASTAL RED CEDAR:
Our
good location enables us to
select the finest old growth, fine-grained woods from our nearby
forests. We have pioneered the use of, extremely high quality, old
growth, Alaskan Yellow Cedar in milled log home construction. This
wood only grows at high elevations, on the north coast, mountain tops,
where the extreme cold produces tight fine grained wood. In addition, its
dense fine grained properties reduces
shrinkage, twisting, and cracking and
stabilizes the wood. As well, this renowned wood is also well known
for its high resistance to both moisture related decay and insect decay.
Ayrewood Log Homes has secured a supply of this
rare, very high quality wood, from nearby north coastal mountain
tops. Quality conscious log
homebuyers also prize our dense fine grained, north coastal,
Western Red Cedar, which also
has similar inherent characteristics of high resistance and
stability..

LODGE
POLE PINE AND NORTHERN WHITE SPRUCE:
We
winter log (Pine and Spruce) from northern Canada.
The extreme cold climates slows the growth, resulting in dense high
quality building logs. Our winter logging practices, further improves the
wood quality, as well as protects the environment. In
the extreme cold winter, the trees sap and moisture retreats into the
trees root system and the ground. This results in wood that has a
lower, and uniform moisture content. Winter logging, slow growth wood,
therefore alleviates the problems associated with kiln drying or air
drying wood that is super saturated. The problems associated with
fast drying (Kiln Drying) saturated wood, include
cracking and case hardening of the exterior, while logs are still
wet at the core.
Ayrewood
Log Homes believe that the quality of the wood, in the logs,
is the single most important issue relating to the
performance of your log home logs.. There is a lot of talk in the
log home industry about using dry wood, and who has the best drying
techniques.. The reason is
that the companies involved are using fast growth (none dense) logs that
are susceptible to high shrinkage rates and instability. Many use spring
and summer logging practices which compounds this problem. By using
dense high quality woods with inherent characteristics of stability and
low shrinkage, we immediately overcome the problems associated with using
this type of wood.
